August birthstone is Peridot, it has a rich history and holds significant meaning. Known for its vibrant green color, Peridot has been cherished and admired for centuries.

The name "peridot" is believed to have originated from the Arabic word "faridat," which means "gem." It is also known by the nickname "Evening Emerald”. Its color ranges from a pale yellow-green to a deep olive green, with higher quality stones displaying a more intense and saturated shade. It’s one of the few Gem stones and Semi-Precious stones that are found in only One color.

Peridot is made of isomorphic olivine, silicate, iron and magnesium, and iron which is the cause of its attractive yellowish green colors. It starts to oxidize at 600 °C (1,112 °F)!

Peridot is found and mined in USA, Myanmar, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, China, Finland, Australia, Vietnam, and more rarely has been found in parts of meteorites.

The largest stone may be a 310-carat gem that belongs to the Smithsonian. And a 192-carat stone of fine clear olive-green is part of the Russian crown jewels in the Kremlin.

The history of peridot can be traced back to ancient times, where it was highly valued by civilizations such as the Egyptians and Romans. In ancient Egypt, peridot was known as the "gem of the sun" and was believed to have protective powers against evil spirits. It was also associated with prosperity and good fortune and believed to alleviate stress, promote relaxation, and enhance overall well-being.
